1. Protect Your Accounts

Use strong, unique passwords for every account. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible. Never share your passwords with anyone.

2. Beware of Phishing

Do not click on suspicious links in emails, SMS, or social media messages. Scammers often impersonate trusted organisations to steal your login details or mobile money.

3. Secure Your Mobile Money

Never share your PIN, OTP, or mobile money password with anyone. Be cautious of unsolicited calls claiming to be from your mobile network provider. SIM swap fraud is on the rise — if you lose network unexpectedly, contact your provider immediately.

4. Guard Your Personal Data

Think before sharing personal information online — your full name, address, ID number, or bank details. Adjust your social media privacy settings to limit what strangers can see.

5. Use Secure Connections

Avoid using public Wi-Fi for banking or sensitive transactions. When browsing, look for "https://" in the address bar and consider using a VPN for added privacy.

6. Update Your Devices

Keep your phone, computer, and apps updated. Software updates often include security patches that protect against known vulnerabilities.

7. Report Abuse

If you encounter online harassment, cyberbullying, or fraud, report it to the platform and the Uganda Police Cyber Crime Unit. You can also reach out to DIRI for guidance.
