DIRI is committed to ensuring that our platform is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or technology. We believe digital rights education should be available to every young Ugandan, including those with disabilities.
What We Are Doing
- Using clear, semantic HTML structure for screen reader compatibility.
- Providing descriptive alt text for meaningful images and accessible labels for controls.
- Ensuring sufficient colour contrast between text and backgrounds.
- Supporting keyboard navigation throughout the platform.
- Providing quick profiles for visual, seizure-sensitivity, colour-vision, attention, dyslexia and learning support needs.
- Providing adjustable text size, line height, text spacing, readable fonts, highlighted headings, links and buttons, image hiding and helpful labels.
- Providing dark, light, inverted and high-contrast modes, a colour-safe palette, and saturation controls.
- Providing motion reduction, reading-guide and reading-mask tools, plus large light and dark cursors.
- Providing reading assistance through browser text-to-speech where supported. Preferences are saved on the user's device.
- Making DIRI available through both the website and WhatsApp.
Ongoing Improvements
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. These features can improve access but do not mean every page or browser combination is fully conformant. We test and improve the experience as issues are identified.
